How the quarter pallet calculator works

A quarter pallet is 600 x 400 mm, a quarter of the 1200 x 800 mm Euro footprint, the smallest standard base, used for display units, small replenishment loads and dense pick faces.

Two steps drive the result:

  1. Boxes per layer (TI). It divides the 600 x 400 mm deck by your box length and width in both orientations and keeps the higher count: the better of floor(600 / boxL) × floor(400 / boxW) and floor(600 / boxW) × floor(400 / boxL).
  2. Layers (HI). It removes the deck height (~120 mm for the lighter quarter base) from your target stack height, then divides by the box height: floor((height - deck) / boxH).

Total = TI × HI, whole boxes only, any leftover space stays empty rather than being rounded up.

Worked example (page defaults)

Using the defaults, a 200 x 150 x 150 mm box on the 600 x 400 mm quarter pallet, stacked to 1000 mm:

  • Orientation A: floor(600 / 200) = 3 by floor(400 / 150) = 2 → 6 per layer.
  • Orientation B: floor(600 / 150) = 4 by floor(400 / 200) = 2 → 8 per layer. The calculator keeps this one.
  • Layers: clearance is 1000 − 120 = 880 mm; floor(880 / 150) = 5 layers.
  • Total: 8 × 5 = 40 boxes.

In orientation B the eight boxes occupy 8 × 200 × 150 = 240,000 mm², exactly matching the 240,000 mm² deck, 100% footprint use. The 600 and 400 mm sides divide cleanly by many common box dimensions, which is why the quarter pallet so often packs without waste.

The quarter pallet is built for the last leg of distribution: it moves through narrow aisles, sits on a shelf or counter as a ready-made display, and lets a single Euro position carry four separate small loads. Because its sides are simple fractions of the Euro module, it stacks and nests predictably with larger pallets.

For the next size up, use the half pallet calculator; for every standard footprint and a full dimensions table, see the pallet calculator and standard pallet sizes. This tool packs one box orientation per layer and does not model interlocked or pinwheel patterns.

Frequently asked questions

What are the dimensions of a quarter pallet?
A quarter pallet is 600 x 400 mm, one quarter of the 1200 x 800 mm Euro footprint. Four quarter pallets fit onto a single Euro pallet position, and two fit onto an 800 x 600 mm half pallet.
How many boxes fit on a 600 x 400 quarter pallet?
With the default 200 x 150 x 150 mm box stacked to 1000 mm, the better orientation gives 8 boxes per layer over 5 layers, or 40 boxes total, filling 100% of the deck. Enter your own box size for the exact figure.
Why does the quarter pallet pack so cleanly?
Its 600 and 400 mm sides are round numbers that divide evenly by many common box dimensions (150, 200, 300 mm). With the default box you reach full deck coverage in one orientation, leaving no wasted strip.
What is a quarter pallet used for?
Small replenishment loads, in-store display units, and dense pick faces where a full pallet is too large. It moves easily through narrow aisles and lets one larger pallet position hold several separate small loads.
